In the latest April-June issue of Sattva,
"Karma Kamala"
There was a recent article in the NY Times about women bullying women at work. The article, like our saas-bahu serials on TV, adds weight to the myth that women are women’s worst enemies.
Our issue on women at work, shows that women can get together to create success stories, as in the case of Source for Change, a women-centric BPO in Rajasthan. We focus on women who have banded together through organizations like Singamma Sreenivasan Foundation and Grameena Mahila Okkuta. We also highlight organizations like Janodaya that give a helping hand to women prisoners and Mann Deshi Udyogini that equip rural women with business skills.
Urban women do not have to fight challenges of illiteracy and gender bias as much as their rural counterparts, but they have their own issues, as seen in our article on quitting the rat race.
We put our hands together for Suman Kolhar, who manages to juggle motherhood and a political career and for Vandana Kohli, who had to start anew when life threw a thunderbolt at her.
To the Ya-Ya sisterhood of women at work. Cheers !
